Business Relationships

Business Relationships

  • We have a set of business principles based upon what we believe is good for veterinary practice and the science of veterinary medicine.
  • We do not enter contracted time periods with veterinary clinics for laboratory equipment. We believe contracts limit choices for scientific equipment and therefore risk the loss of timely opportunities to improve a specific area of diagnosis and subsequent therapy. Not good for patient, client and clinician.
  • Flexibility and customisation are two values that are used to ensure quality outputs per practice and per clinician. Many good analysers sit in some practices and are widely utilised in others. It is our goal to work with each practice to ensure we do not ‘unload’ a white elephant! We have from the outset recognised competitor equipment and its quality. Therefore, we work to accommodate their equipment in our laboratory services. We are the only operator in the world who has integrated competitor equipment into our laboratory management software. (Now owned by Gribbles).
  • We work with practices to ensure a profitable and growth focused outcome for working up cases. As many astute clinicians have pointed out over the years, you work up a case first, then you administer therapy. Sometimes when you work up a case the client declines therapy, sometimes the therapy is of low cost. Therefore, diagnostic profitability is key to successful clinical practice profitability. We price from pet owner back. This often means we make accommodations to ensure the practice has good GMD (gross margin dollars) capacity per test. We never talk about mark-ups or margins on lab tests as these are often misleading.
  • As one size does not fit all, we prefer to quote per practice and customise an offering that works for that practice and the objectives of the clinicians within.
  • We provide 24-hour support for all equipment that we sell. Training on installation is free. We extend all manufacturers warranties by 12 months based upon our knowledge of the equipment.
  • We select equipment based upon sound scientific principles e. g. preferring ISE electrolyte analysis over reflective dry chemistry. We work closely with external laboratories to ensure good performance of all analysers in clinics. We set up the external QA program now adopted by Gribbles to distance our equipment from internal variables of provider. Our competitors joined the program later.
  • We are the only operator in New Zealand that can work at technician level on equipment.
  • We have expertise in wet chemistry and have several long-term customers using liquid reagents at very low costs. No other veterinary provider in Australasia exists that we know of. This means we can assist exceptional practices into testing levels equating to external laboratories with unprecedented profitability.
  • We have international relationships with equipment provision from 13 countries. Many of these relationships are over 20 years old. This brings a wealth of international knowledge and industry outlook. We have become very astute at recognising developing opportunities. We are currently working with international laboratories on bacteriophage technologies for bovine Tb and Johnes disease.

Summary

Our Analyser Summary document is our main guide to the core areas of our offering. There are many associated documents in our library including quick start guides, full manuals, citations and other published material that evaluates analyser performance. We have written many guides in good laboratory practice. Two thirds of all veterinary practice laboratory issues are pre-analytical so phlebotomy and sample handling are key to good outcomes.
